On Thursday 19th of March the official guidelines for carrying out DBS checks were adjusted to facilitate employers and candidates working remotely.
The main change is that the ID Checker they can now review a scanned digital version of essential documents.

This service is only available to Essex County Council approved administrators, ID verifiers and applicants required to complete a criminal record check by those approved users.
Standard and Enhanced disclosure checks are required for eligible roles undertaking regulated activities with adults and/or children.
Basic disclosure checks can be requested for other non-regulated roles.
The Disclosures and Barring Service (DBS) process Enhanced, Standard and Basic checks for work undertaken in England and Wales, while Disclosure Scotland process Basic checks for roles based in Scotland.
This facility enables ID verifiers and applicants to complete a DBS check at Enhanced, Standard and Basic level. The menu options above provide more information.
