New Fast Track DBS Process for Covid-19 Key Workers

A new fast-track check of both the adults’ and children’s barred list is currently available free of charge to emergency healthcare and social workers. This emergency barred lists check, and the full DBS Disclosure, is free of the Government charge but only available to eligible emergency roles.

This was announced alongside the enactment of The Serious Organised Crime and Policing Act 2005 (Commencement No.16) Order 2020. For the list of eligible emergency roles within NHS health services, social care services or social services functions in connection with the provision of care and treatment of Coronavirus disease, please refer to the DBS Guidance here.

Any applications that were submitted for processing before the 30th March 2020 will not benefit from the service and please remember that emergency roles are different to those defined as ‘key workers’ for the purposes of childcare etc.

This service must only be used where organisations are recruiting staff that fall within the government’s definition provided above. Therefore all other appointments that are eligible for an Enhanced with barred list check, for example, must be processed in the usual manner. This is to ensure that the urgent checks for COVID-19 related roles can be processed without delay.

N.B: If your candidate has had an Enhanced with Barred List DBS check in the last 3 years, as long as it is for the same workforce (i.e. children and/or adults), please consider whether or not you may use this recent check to determine their suitability.

You should NOT use these emergency, fast-tracked checks to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. Also, these checks should not be added to an existing subscription. Any free-of-charge Fast-track checks that are added to an Update Service subscription will be de-linked and subscriptions cancelled where appropriate.

How do I apply for a COVID-19 fast-track barred list check?

If you’re already a registered user:

  • Check that the job role is listed as an eligible emergency role within the DBS guidance linked above.

  • If the job role is listed as an eligible emergency role you will need to select “Yes” underneath the text stating: “Does this role meet the requirements for a Covid-19 Fast Tracked Barred List Check and a free of charge DBS check based on Government Guidance” within the “Complete DBS” page of your application overview.

  • If it is not, you won’t be eligible for this service but can continue with your DBS check by selecting “No”.

  • The Fast-track DBS aims to provide results to Talent Clouds by the end of the next working day. This will be then be forwarded on to your primary contact within one working hour of our receipt from the DBS.

  • The results provided will state that no match has been found and your candidate is clear, or that you should await the full completed DBS check before making a recruitment decision.

  • There will be no change to the way you receive the full result. You will receive an indicative notice from the system and the certificate will be sent to the applicant by the DBS via post.
